In Chana's words

Wide-eyed, chubby cheeks, he gazes at the frosted cake for just a moment before diving right in and making those sugary sweet dreams a reality. It's his first birthday and he owns it!

“Make sure these significant moments are etched in time by booking a photoshoot for whatever your special milestone may be!”

Cake smash celebration

The bundle

Three looks in one visit.

First comes a clean first-birthday portrait you can send to grandparents, then the cake. Baby goes in, usually tentatively, then commits; the mess is the point.

I bundled all of this on purpose. Families kept asking about "first birthday pictures" and "cake smash" like they were different things. They're not. You get both in one session, plus the milk bath at the end. One trip, three looks, and baby's asleep by the time you hit the car.

Milk bath baby

The milk bath

The part nobody expects.

Most families book the bundle for the cake and end up ordering the milk bath as wall art. Warm milk, a few petals, and a quietly playing baby make pictures that look painterly.

There's a practical reason it comes last too. Baby's had their fill of cake, they're sticky, they're ready to be cleaned up. The milk bath doubles as cleanup. You leave with a dry, tired baby.

Common questions

Frequently asked

Where is the studio, coming from Columbia?
My photography studio is located in the Pikesville area of Baltimore, MD, just about a 4 minutes drive off the 695. From Columbia, take US-29 N to I-70 E, then I-695 N to exit 22, and there is parking at the studio.
What's the best age for a cake smash?
Ten to fifteen months. Some families book at ten months so photos are back in time for the first birthday. After fifteen months baby is usually too over-it for the smash.
Is the cake provided?
I don't supply the cake directly because of allergy concerns, but I have a baker who delivers cakes straight to the studio. You don't have to worry about transporting a cake from home and having it fall in the car. Tell me your color palette and any dietary notes when you book.
What's included with the session?
Balloons, banner, and a customized cake topper in your color palette are all complimentary. The session starts with a clean first-birthday portrait and ends with a milk bath. Studio bathroom is on-site for clean-up.
How messy is it?
Very. That's the point. Baby gets sticky during the cake smash, then we wash up in the studio bathroom and finish with the milk bath. You leave with a clean, tired baby.
Can siblings or parents be in the portraits?
Yes. The clean first-birthday portion includes family shots. The cake and milk bath are usually baby-only.
When should I book?
Two to four weeks ahead. Holiday slots around December go faster.
