Family portrait studio

How it runs

Sixty to ninety minutes.

Family sessions take about an hour, and the first fifteen minutes are just kids getting comfortable. The last ten, once everyone has forgotten me, is usually where the best candid shots live.

I think of myself as a portrait artist first, so some sessions get a clean backdrop look and others get a painterly overlay finish. Timeless portraits and wall art from family sessions are the most popular print order at the studio, by a lot.

Generational family portrait

Generational sessions

Three and four generations in one frame.

Generational portraits are one of the most special sessions I do, capturing parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents together while everyone is still healthy and present. The frame becomes an heirloom.

I book these well ahead, especially when out-of-town family is flying in for a holiday or a birthday. Sibling-only sessions work too. Tell me who's in the frame and what you want captured, and I'll style around it.

The process

What to expect

01

Before your session

We begin with a personal consultation to plan every detail. This is your time to share your vision and preferences so your session feels seamless and truly tailored to you.

02

The session

The studio is thoughtfully designed for comfort, allowing you to relax and enjoy the experience. Newborn sessions typically last 2–3 hours as we gently follow baby’s lead, never rushing. You also receive a preparation guide so you feel fully ready.

03

Viewing & selection

After your session, we meet for a private viewing where I guide you in selecting your images and designing your collection. This is also when you can choose custom wall art and albums.

04

Final artwork

Each image is carefully hand-edited and your chosen pieces are crafted into timeless artwork. Within a few weeks, everything will be ready for its forever home.

Common questions

Frequently asked

Where is the studio, coming from Columbia?
My photography studio is located in the Pikesville area of Baltimore, MD, just about a 4 minutes drive off the 695. From Columbia, take US-29 N to I-70 E, then I-695 N to exit 22, and there is parking at the studio.
Do you photograph families from Howard County and the rest of Maryland?
Yes. The studio welcomes families from Columbia, Howard County, and all over Maryland, and has regulars from Virginia, Delaware, and even Manhattan, NY.
How long is a family session?
Sixty to ninety minutes. Longer for generational sessions with multiple households.
Do you photograph in-home?
Family sessions are studio-only. In-home is available for newborns under specific conditions.
What should we wear?
A style guide is sent when you book. Coordinated palettes in soft neutrals photograph best in studio.
